Signs of the Times
It’s that time of year again. The decorations are starting to go up in cities around the nation. Garland, ornaments, lights and plastic Santa Clauses are being pulled out of storage. Everywhere you go, people are wishing each other “Happy Holidays!”
But where are the nativity scenes? Where are the three wise men? Where is the story of God’s great redemption plan? Where did our “Merry Christmas” go?
The Secularization of America
The truth is, our christian values have been eroding in this country for some time and they’ve taken our christian traditions with them. A quiet war has been waged on christianity in culture. Cities and municipalities across this nation have removed the 10 commandments – the cornerstone of the American legal system – from the courthouses and centers of justice which are tasked with keeping the rule of law. “Happy Holidays” is a culturally acceptable, secularized way to wish someone well without bringing Christ into the conversation. Christmas is just another casualty of the continued secularization of american culture.
It Was Not Meant to Be Like This
America was not intended to be a nation without God. From the earliest settlers to the founding fathers, this nation was founded on Christian morals and the idea that, here in America, christianity would be free to grow and shape society without the constraints of governmental interference. The Pilgrims came to escape government persecution of religion. The founding fathers built the foundation of this country upon biblical values. In fact, Thomas Jefferson, in his Notes on the State of Virginia, said:
“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath?”
And yet, here we are, 240 years later, facing just such a situation. The “firm basis” of our country is being removed one courthouse at a time and our christian liberties are being violated.
We Can Return America to Her Roots
But it’s not too late. The common people in this country have shown, over and over, that they still believe that God’s values are their values. We can turn this country around and return her to her roots as a biblical, God-fearing nation where christians are free to pursue and glorify God without fear of persecution and ridicule. We can once again be a country where The Ten Commandments are the backbone of justice.
How? We must pray. We must pray fervently and regularly. We must humble ourselves to ask for forgiveness for our country and for the redemption of our fellow Americans. Join us as we rise up for our nation by falling to our knees.
“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice.”
