50th Anniversary of Jerusalem’s Reunification

By | Recent Articles | No Comments

AIPAC applauds the Senate for unanimously approving Senate Resolution (S. Res.) 176 today that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem.

Authored by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY), the bipartisan resolution recognizes “there has been a continuous Jewish presence in Jerusalem for 3 millennia” and hails Jerusalem as a “united city in which the rights of all faiths have been respected and protected” since 1967.

This day also marks the 50-year anniversary of the beginning of the Six-Day War. This war of Israeli self-defense resulted in Jerusalem’s reunification. From 1948 to 1967, Israeli citizens from all religious backgrounds and Jewish people of all nationalities could not access Jerusalem’s Old City and holy sites. After the Six-Day War, Israel immediately eliminated constraints on the free exercise of religion, and supported access of Jews, Christians and Muslims to worship in Jerusalem, a practice which continues today.
Today’s Senate resolution:

Recognizes the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem;
Supports Israel’s commitment to religious freedom and administration of holy sites in Jerusalem;
Supports strengthening the mutually beneficial U.S.-Israel relationship;
Commends Egypt and Jordan for embracing a vision of peace and coexistence with Israel and upholding their peace agreements;
Reaffirms that the permanent status of Jerusalem remains a matter to be decided between the parties through final status negotiations towards a two-state solution; and
Reaffirms the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, which recognizes Jerusalem as “the capital of the State of Israel.”

Where did our “Merry Christmas” go?

By | Recent Articles | No Comments

Signs of the Times

It’s that time of year again. The decorations are starting to go up in cities around the nation. Garland, ornaments, lights and plastic Santa Clauses are being pulled out of storage. Everywhere you go, people are wishing each other “Happy Holidays!”

But where are the nativity scenes? Where are the three wise men? Where is the story of God’s great redemption plan? Where did our “Merry Christmas” go?

The Secularization of America

The truth is, our christian values have been eroding in this country for some time and they’ve taken our christian traditions with them. A quiet war has been waged on christianity in culture. Cities and municipalities across this nation have removed the 10 commandments – the cornerstone of the American legal system – from the courthouses and centers of justice which are tasked with keeping the rule of law. “Happy Holidays” is a culturally acceptable, secularized way to wish someone well without bringing Christ into the conversation. Christmas is just another casualty of the continued secularization of american culture.

It Was Not Meant to Be Like This

America was not intended to be a nation without God. From the earliest settlers to the founding fathers, this nation was founded on Christian morals and the idea that, here in America, christianity would be free to grow and shape society without the constraints of governmental interference. The Pilgrims came to escape government persecution of religion. The founding fathers built the foundation of this country upon biblical values. In fact, Thomas Jefferson, in his Notes on the State of Virginia, said:

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath?”

And yet, here we are, 240 years later, facing just such a situation. The “firm basis” of our country is being removed one courthouse at a time and our christian liberties are being violated.

We Can Return America to Her Roots

But it’s not too late. The common people in this country have shown, over and over, that they still believe that God’s values are their values. We can turn this country around and return her to her roots as a biblical, God-fearing nation where christians are free to pursue and glorify God without fear of persecution and ridicule. We can once again be a country where The Ten Commandments are the backbone of justice.

How? We must pray. We must pray fervently and regularly. We must humble ourselves to ask for forgiveness for our country and for the redemption of our fellow Americans. Join us as we rise up for our nation by falling to our knees.

“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice.”

Psalm 55:17

“If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”

Ronald Reagan

We can return America to the faith of our founding fathers and ignite a revival that can save this nation.

We can stop corruption and immorality and the taking of innocent lives. The Bible says, that “if my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
